As the pandemic continues to impact businesses and jobs, many are still unable to make their rent payments. While there had been protection from eviction over the course of the last few months through various county-specific moratoriums, those are set to expire or have already ended.  

 

Now, renters who still have reduced or no income or have been unable to work due to illness are concerned about what happens next. Many do not have the funds to repay back rent let alone their current monthly obligations.

 

In cities like San Francisco, the Mayor has added a moratorium to continue protecting tenants who cannot pay from facing eviction. They now have until February 2020 to repay the missed rent payments. However, other cities have yet to follow suit.
