Real Word "Reunion" Speakers Panel: Celebrating 40 Years of Child Advocacy at Voices for Children

Join Voices for Children on Tuesday, April 27, for a special online Real Word Reunion Speakers Panel featuring two individuals who spent time in local foster care and their Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers.
The Real Word is a panel comprised of individuals who have spent time in foster care after experiencing abuse, neglect, or abandonment by their caregivers. The “Reunion” panel will feature two Real Word alumni along with their CASA volunteers, who together will reflect on foster care, pivotal moments in their lives, and the role of CASAs. Even more special, attendees will be able to see the special bond between the panelists and their CASAs, which has remained strong through transitions into adulthood, careers, and family life.

Moderator Maureen Cavanaugh
Award-winning journalist and co-host of KPBS Midday Edition Maureen Cavanaugh will guide the discussion with panelists Josh and Candace and their CASAs, Tim and Genevieve. Panelists will share about their experiences in foster care and the factors that have helped them overcome their circumstances and find hope.

You may recognize Candace and Genevieve from the VFC video Candace and Her Brothers, in which Candace shared her difficult transition into foster care and the ways in which CASA Genevieve uplifted her and her family. Josh and CASA Tim were also featured in a heartwarming VFC video entitled Dear CASA, in which Josh expresses gratitude to Tim for his dedication and support.
